Yeah protecting the rainforests is really important for slowing global warming. The cutting down of the rainforest produces more carbon dioxide (a gas which plays a part in global warming) than all the roads and trucks on the roads in the whole world! Trees store carbon in their trunks and leaves, but when they’re cut this is released and it increases the amount of greenhouse gases (responsible for global warming) in the air. Cutting down the trees is also bad for the animals that live in the rainforest, like the orangutan https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/deforestation-and-orangutans/ Thankfully people are trying to stop the rainforests been cut down in order to tackle global warming, for example with the United Nations’ Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD) program đŸ™‚
