Environmental Care Zone

Our actions can affect the environment, in both positive and negative ways. Protecting theĀ environment starts with everyone’s personal behaviour and their impact on theirĀ surroundings, which extends out to the whole planet. You might care for the environment at school or at home – do you watch out for littering and use recycled paper? Are you careful about your energy and water use?

Lots of scientists are working to protect the environment, working with both local areas and big industries. In this zone you will meet a scientist studying different honeybees and where they come from, a scientist working to protect Irish rivers and the endangered creatures living in them, and a scientist finding bugs in drinking water to make sure it’s safe to drink. Another is finding out how cleaning products can get into foods and how to stop this from happening, and another is studying how to protect fish and humans from harmful jellyfish species.
