I’ve done experiments to test the best treatment for a jellyfish sting? I use a jelly called agar with blood in it to represent human skin. I take a tentacle from a jellyfish and place it on the jelly. The venom on the tentacle causes the blood to turn yellow because it bursts the red blood cells. I measure the area of the jelly which has turned yellow. To test the effectiveness of different treatments I compare the size of the yellow area on the jelly. If the yellow area is big, this means the treatment hasn’t worked very well. If the yellow area is small, then the treatment has stopped the venom from bursting the red blood cells and has worked very well.

I’ve tested seawater, vinegar, freshwater and even urine!

I took a core from a lake to look back in history! If you look at a big core (a soil sample) from a lake, you can use lab analysis to find out how old the soil is, I found my core went back about 70 years 🙂
