A winter cluster is the method the honeybees have invented to overpass the cold winter. So, just before the winter comes, the number of bees into their nest increase, and once the temperature drops below 10 degrees they start to compact themselves forming the beecluster. As long as the bees remain in a cluster form, they are able to warm up themselves and the nest, avoiding to die of cold. Some winter day you will see honeybees flying close to their hive, but only if the temperature is above 11 degrees and only during the warmer hours of the day.
