  It depends on the bin and the country. If it is recycled it goes to a big factory, is sorted into the type of material and then made into new items. If it is the refuse bin it can go to places like landfills or incinerators 🙂

  Another thing that’s good to know is about “recycling contamination”, this is when someone accidently, for example, puts plastic in the paper recycling! This could mean that everything in the bin has to go to the landfill rather than being recycled and turned into something new. In my work we have pictures of what goes in each bin so when we throw something in the bin we know it’s going to the right place 🙂
