In the early human history, we didn’t require pesticides. But due to the increasing population, we required to make huge amounts of food. Since pests can decrease the yield and crop losses, we have been using the pesticides. In future, we might not need pesticides as are developing plants that can resist pest attacks.

There’s also quite strict rules for what foods farmers can give to shops, shops won’t take a farmers food if it has any marks from pests, so farmers are forced to use pesticides or they won’t be able to sell their fruit and veg! That’s why people are now encouraged to buy “wonky veg”, veg that has marks from pests or weird shapes so that we can use less pesticides. You can also do things like planting strong smelling plants like garlic around your main crop to scare the pests off that way!
