The Environmental Care Zone student winner is…

faith2018, congratulations! During every event we ask the scientists and moderators to nominate their top student — one who’s made the most of the event, shown enthusiasm and asked some really great questions. faith2018 from St Molaga’s School was nominated for their great engagement with the scientists in the live chats. One scientist said “they asked loads of great questions and showed a great level of insight and understanding.” As the student winner, faith2018 will receive a certificate and a gift voucher. Well done to faith2018, and to everyone who took part. There were so many interesting questions, and comments, but there could only be one winner in each zone. PS: YOU now have the power to say which scientists and engineers take part next time — click here to be the judge.

Thank you from your winner – Jasmine!

Students! Did you do your profile survey? Check your email for a chance to win a £20 voucher and tell us what you think now! I can’t believe that you chose me! I had such an amazing time chatting with you and answering your questions. There were some great questions thrown my way and it was great to see so many of you share your enthusiasm for science. Many thanks to the you, your teachers and the I’m a Scientist team, without whom this event would not have been possible. I also want to thank the School of Science at the National University of Ireland, Galway. STEM engagement is always encouraged and celebrated in this school and the school provided me with an opportunity to communicate my research in a constructive and gratifying way. While doing STEM engagement, I have stripped my research down to the bare minimum and I … Continue reading

Who’s taking part in the Environmental Care Zone

The Environmental Care Zone is a primary school zone supported by Science Foundation Ireland.  William McCarthy | PhD Student, Teagasc Food Research Centre I study how the chemicals in cleaning products can break up and join together in different ways (kind of like Lego blocks), how these new chemicals can get into milk, and how to stop this from happening!
